Elina resting in Paracas

(December 2004)

After 17 days of  “chuggin’ and luggin’” from one city to another, I arrived in Paracas to see Ballestas Islands the next day. Let me tell you how thrilled I was to be in a beautiful resort.  What a wonderful way to end your trip and spend it with your group.  I could stayed there for a week. Don’t get me wrong; backpacking had its thrills too, but after all that trekking, a girl has to relax sometime, and what a better way to do it then to stay at Hotel Paracas. Pools, ocean, sunbathing, massage, and food--you name it and you have it!  Don’t forget to try the drink called “Sol de Paracas” (Sun of Paracas).  I drank it like it was water---delicious!!! The Peach Daiquiris were pretty tasty too!   Prices are  higher than normal for Peru, but when compared to home (USA), the prices were average for a place like that.  Don’t be cheap and just treat yourself to a relaxing 2 days, because you’ll deserve by the time you arrive there.

Waking up early the next day to go to the Ballestas Islands was a treat too, especially because the whole tour was in the boat and we didn’t have to walk anywhere.  Be prepared when the boat takes you into the caves because there you’ll discover a wrecked smell from the sea lions.  But all this is worth it when such beauty surrounds you.  Have fun!
