Location:

Climate: It's sunny and warm year round, reason why Trujillo is known as the land of "eternal spring". The yearly mean temperature is 18°C (64°F), although it can rise to 28°C (82°F) in summer (December to March).
Landscapes: Trujillo is in a fertile valley, but close to the coast and the beaches. The most famous beaches are Huanchaco and Chicama. The first one is only 13 km. from the city and it's a fishermen village, the second one is farther but it's consider a paradise for surfers, its waves are the longest left breaks in the world, reason why it's common to see surfers in this beach.
History:
In
this region settled two
important cultures of ancient Peru, the first one was the "Mochicas"
(1st to 7th century AD), and then the "Chimu" (9th to 15th century AD).
The Chimu built and important citadel that was its capital. Its name was Chan
Chan and it's a city of 20 km square that housed some 100,000 people. Nowadays,
the remains is still on feet, and UNESCO has named it as an Historical and Cultural
World Heritage. Other remains of ancient
cultures in this region are adobe pyramids as "Huaca del Brujo",
interesting because its friezes and murals with painted figures.
The city of Trujillo
itself is interesting because its historic buildings and its architecture. It is
worthwhile to visit its Main Plaza, its Cathedral and old mansions like Casa
Bracamonte.
Customs
and feasts: Its artisans are very famous because
their delicate work in silver
filigree
and jewelry; however, the biggest cultural expressions are its dances
(“marinera”)
and the
breeding
of the Peruvian
Paso horses, unique in the world.
As opposed to other horse breeds which only walk in a crossed manner (moving
right foreleg with left hindleg), the Peruvian horses can also amble, that is,
advancing both legs on the same side at the same time. It's a show you shouldn't
miss in Trujillo.
Activities:
Relax
and enjoy its beaches; but be careful to don't get a sunburn and don't leave
your stuffs alone. You can also do some aquatic sports like surfing, diving, etc. or
fish as the local fishermen do,
with individual boats made of reed called “caballitos de totora”.
This is
a
great experience!.
